DEFENAGE

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

DefenAge is a new skin care product line that rejuvenates the skin by  activating the stem cells found in hair follicles. Age-Repair Defensins™  are the regenerative messenger peptides contained in DefenAge. They work by triggering the production of new skin cells by the stem cells they target.

Stem Cells in the hair follicles are activated by Defenage to rejuvenate the skin.

Stem Cells in the hair follicles are activated by DefenAge to rejuvenate the skin.

This process leads to cell renewal that results in more youthful appearing skin. The barrier surface layer of skin cells, known as keratinocytes, are restored leading to enhanced protection from environmental skin stressors and improved skin hydration. The clinical trials that were performed showed diminished wrinkles, enhanced skin tone and texture, and reduced dryness.

Dr. Forley is using DefenAge in combination with the Fractora micro needling and radio frequency energy treatment to maximize skin improvement. Enhanced penetration of the stem cell stimulating Age-Repair Defensins™ through the channels created by the Fractora procedure may potentiate their effect on skin cell renewal.

SLEEPING POSITIONS MAY CAUSE WRINKLES OVER TIME

Sunday, November 27th, 2016

New York, NY (July 26, 2016) – A new study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the peer-reviewed publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), indicates that compression, tension, and shear forces applied to the face during sleep cause facial distortion when people sleep on their sides and stomach, leading to the development of sleep wrinkles over time.

The HA in both JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC and the previously approved filler for cheek enhancement, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, was developed with advanced Vycross® technology to produce smooth, long lasting results. Vycross® technology enables treatments to be performed with a lower concentration of HA resulting in less swelling. Dr. Forley will evaluate you during your consultation to see if you are a good candidate for JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC.

SMOKING AND THE SKIN

Wednesday, August 31st, 2016

Most of us are already aware that smoking is a damaging habit that can affect important organs such as the lungs, heart, and brain as well as being one of the leading causes of cancer. Even though most smokers already know that tobacco has adverse effects on their health, they may not realize the premature aging that it produces in the skin.

No smoking

Inhalation of just one puff from a cigarette exposes you to over 7,000 chemicals in addition to reducing the blood supply to the skin. This harmful combination damages the integrity of skin elastic fibres and collagen. The sagging skin that results can effect the whole body and is not limited to the face and neck. Reduced levels of vitamin A contribute to loss of moisture in the skin. In addition, skin discoloration, age spots, and premature lines around the eyes and lips can be the direct result of smoking.

Although quitting cigarettes alone makes the skin more resistant to premature aging, skin care options that include retinoids and antioxidants such as Vitamins C and E can help repair some of the damage already done. Cosmetic procedures such as laser skin resurfacing or skin peels can also help where the damage is most visible. Prevention of additional damage from the harmful UV radiation produced by the sun requires the regular use of sunscreens.

THE SILHOUETTE INSTALIFT

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Interested in the youthful appearance that a facelift would deliver but not ready to go under the knife or the recovery involved? New advancements in technology now offer a clinical treatment to lift facial sagging with little down time and use of local anesthesia only. The Silhouette InstaLift offers a solution to the aging process by achieving lifting in the mid-face by mechanical fixation of the deep layer of the cheek. This is accomplished by using a fully absorbable suspension suture with small, smooth cones that are bidirectional at either end.

A needle is used to insert the suture in the layer directly under the skin. Once the suture is implanted, using the opposing orientation of the cones to compress and fix the loose facial layers in an elevated position lifts the lax tissues of the face.

What happens next is why this innovative treatment is successful in achieving a long-term result. A process of biological fixation starts to occur in which the suture and cones become encapsulated by collagen. The lifting of the face that has been achieved is locked into position by your own collagen and no longer depends on the InstaLift sutures. In addition, the glycolide/L-lactide (PLGA) suture material itself can enhance facial contour naturally due to its collagen stimulating effect. During your consultation, Dr. Forley will advise you as to whether the Silhouette InstaLift is right for you. The procedure takes about an hour and the effect lasts about 18 months. You should consider the Silhouette InstaLift if you are looking for a minimally invasive procedure that provides lift, contour, and fullness to the face.

VENOUS LAKE TREATMENT

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

You can add a type of benign nodular vascular growth, known as a venous lake, to the many negative effects of sun exposure. It is commonly found in areas of the body that are often unprotected such as the vermillion or red part of the lip. It appears as a dark blue or purple collection of dilated, blood filled channels. It is compressible and tends to be very slow growing. It can mimic melanoma or basal cell carcinoma and must be distinguished from these malignant conditions prior to treatment.

The Nordlys Nd:YAG laser delivers energy at a wavelength that is selectively absorbed by the blood cells in the vascular channels of the venous lake. This causes a heating of the channel lining and collapse of the vessel wall that ultimately results in shutting down blood flow. Without blood flow, the venous lake will disappear. Treatment of the venous lake is quick, often requiring only 1 or 2 pulses of laser energy with minimal discomfort. In most cases, one or two treatment sessions at 6-8 week intervals is sufficient.
