FACELIFTS: THE WIND TUNNEL MYTH

The wind tunnel look following a facelift is a pulled, tight appearance that flattens the face and distorts the mouth. It is a common fear expressed by patients who are considering a facelift. The good news is that this is absolutely not your fate should you decide to undergo a surgical rejuvenation of your face. Older techniques that rely purely on skin tightening and the lack of artistic judgment when performing surgery are the most frequent causes of this very undesirable outcome.

The modern facelift techniques performed by Dr. Forley utilize the strong, fibrous muscular layer deep to the skin, known as the SMAS, to tighten loose tissues of the face and neck to recreate natural, youthful contours. Adding volume to the face with fat grafts enhances the anti-aging benefit of deep tissue tightening by restoring the structural support of the skin that has diminished over time. By providing structure rather than tension, the face appears fresh and unoperated which is the goal of a well planned and well performed facelift.
