In some cases, a breast lift or mastopexy is indicated without altering the size of the breast. A more uplifted appearing breast with fewer scars can be achieved surgically with short scar techniques so that visible signs of the procedure are minimized. Lesser degrees of breast sagging can be improved without scars using the innovative BodyTite radiofrequency (RF) non-excisional skin tightening procedure. Dr. Forley, who developed his breast lift technique while training at New York University Medical Center performs surgery with naturally beautiful results.

TATLER
UK-based Tatler discussed Dr. Forley in its 2008 Beauty and Cosmetic Surgery
Guide as one of the “A-list of cosmetic surgeons”…”who are at the top of their
game”…and whose “innovations are shaping the art of cosmetic surgery around
the world.” It was noted that Dr. Forley’s “discreet Upper East Side clinic is
perfect for women and men in search of minimally invasive natural-looking
surgery.
Vogue
Julia Reed writes that Dr. Forley, “disarms me by asking what I might like to
have done. Nothing, I say, sure that I mean it. And then he shows me before and
after books of tiny little neck lifts, subtle browlifts involving tiny little
incisions well hidden within the hairline. In ten years, he assures me, I’ll be
thinking about it. I actually like him. And I fear he may be right.”

You should consider a breast lift if:
Dr. Forley will ask you to describe what concerns you most about the appearance of your breasts. He will enquire as to your history of pregnancies and childbirth, weight gain or loss, and the presence of any
breast disease in you or your immediate family. An important part of the conversation will be to determine if you are primarily concerned with the sagging of the breasts or if you are also thinking about increasing or decreasing their size. During your breast exam, Dr. Forley will carefully measure your breasts and perform a dimensional analysis to determine the breast lift procedure that would suit you best. He will discuss the components of the procedure as well as the options for incision locations that will be used to accomplish your goals. If you have the indications for a scarless breast lift, Dr. Forley will also review the minimally invasive BodyTite radiofrequency skin tightening procedure as an alternative to traditional surgery.
The minimum breast lift scar
is one that encircles the areola. In some cases, this will be extended vertically to the fold under the breast in the shape of a lollipop.
In extreme sagging, an additional scar may be required within the fold under the breast forming what is known as the “anchor” scar to enable
better lifting and contouring. If you expressed an interest in altering the size of your breasts to complement your
breast lift,
Dr. Forley will also discuss enhancing the volume of your breasts with breast implants or in making them smaller with a breast reduction.

Prior to your breast lift, Dr. Forley will make several measurements and mark specific areas of your breasts to use as guidelines during your surgery.
The anesthesiologist will then review with you the twilight/sedation technique that is utilized exclusively in our Joint Commission accredited office-based surgery facility.
During the procedure, an island of breast tissue carrying blood supply and sensation to the nipple is created to enable rotation of the nipple and areola into the desired upward location.
Excess skin is removed and suture techniques are then used to lift and shape the surrounding breast tissue to achieve the desired form. Your breasts will be carefully
compared in the sitting position to assure as much symmetry as possible and any additional adjustments will be made before final closure. Go back
Prior to your breast reduction, Dr. Forley will make several measurements and mark specific areas of your breasts with you sitting or standing.
These markings are precise guidelines that are used during surgery. The anesthesiologist will then review with you
the twilight/sedation technique that is utilized exclusively in our Joint Commission accredited office-based surgery facility in New York. In cases that are covered by your health insurance,
the surgery will be performed at the hospital. During the reduction procedure, the island of breast tissue carrying blood supply and sensation to the nipple is designed and prepared.
Excess glandular tissue is removed, with the amount and location of removal depending on your desired breast size. The remaining breast tissue is then shaped with suture techniques
to create the desired form. To reposition the breast mound upward, the skin of the lower portion of the breast is tightened with the removal of excess skin.
The areola complex is repositioned upward to the proper location on the new mound and sutured in place. Your breasts will be carefully compared
in the sitting position to assure as much symmetry as possible and any additional adjustments will be made before final closure. Go back
In some cases, a drain may be used for the first 24 hours to minimize any bruising.
You should sponge bathe after surgery and may shower after 72 hours. You will need to wear a soft bra without an underwire for the first 3-4 weeks.
Dissolving stitches are used and placed beneath the skin so removal is not necessary.
A mild to a moderate feeling of soreness can be expected during the first few days after
surgery and is alleviated by your prescribed pain medication. A sensation of tightness or
fullness from swelling as well as some bruising may develop but will gradually diminish over the first 7-10 days. Go back
Strenuous exercise or aerobic activity that increases your pulse over 100 during the first two or three weeks may increase your blood pressure and could result in bleeding. Go back
Loss of nipple sensation is extremely rare with breast lift surgery. All techniques utilized for the surgery are designed to preserve the nerves that provide branches to the areola and the nipple.
In some cases, the forward projection delivered when a breast implant is placed results in the elevation of a drooping nipple to a sufficient degree that a breast lift procedure is not required.
If a reduction in the size of the breasts is planned to accompany the breast lift surgery, it can usually be performed without any additional incisions or scars.
Many factors may affect the longevity of a breast lift result. The combination of lifestyle, breast size, weight changes, and gravity will ultimately determine the recurrence of sagging that may necessitate a revision in the future.
Breast implants provide a predictable way of treating the concave appearance of the upper part of the chest that frequently accompanies sagging breasts. However, in some cases fat grafts can be injected to restore sufficient contour at the time of the breast lift instead of relying on an implant.
Surgical procedures have inherent risks such as bleeding, infection,
loss of sensation, and thickened scar tissue formation but these only occur in
a very small percentage of cases. We will give you more detailed information about
these and other rare risks in our written information and encourage you to discuss any that concern you during your consultation. Go back
